Introduction How to belong | ![]()
We recognise that it is important to belong - that we are accepted, cared for, valued, for who and what we are. We encourage this sense of belonging to be present in our Church.
We believe that God has called each of us; we belong not because of our goodness but through God's grace and the worthiness of Jesus.
This belonging has its most important expression through participation in the worship and life of the Church. Together we seek to grow in God's love and be open to the work of God in our lives.
This sense of belonging is most specifically expressed in our celebration of the Eucharist or Holy Communion. It is our central act of worship and an outward expression of our offering and sharing in the life of Jesus - symbolised for us in the bread and wine.
Traditionally, full participation in the Eucharist is reserved for those who have been confirmed. As a Church, we would advocate a more inclusive approach to the Eucharist - that with proper oversight and a declared intent to seek confirmation, all baptised members should be allowed to receive Communion. We believe this encourages a proper sense of belonging and use of God's gifts in the life of the Church.
