Bride and groom Deborah Walters and Joseph King will make history tomorrow when they tie the knot in the first ever wedding ceremony at their 30 year-old local church. The couple from Little Bloxwich had to apply for a special licence from the Archbishop of Canterbury to be married at Holy Ascension Church in Sanstone Road - because the building has never been licensed for weddings.
She said: "The church is a prefabricated building which used to be a bank. It was donated to the church about 30 years ago and the plan was it would eventually be replaced by a new building, but that has never happened. "All of the other weddings, funerals and christenings take place at the main church, All Saints' in the High Street." Said Rev Allaby: "Deborah's mum Dot has had very close links with the church and arranges the altar flowers, so the couple decided they would like to get married here. |

We even had an anonymous donation to have the chairs professionally cleaned for the occasion. "It's a great example of the community pulling together." Nursery nurse Deborah met plumber Joseph about 15 months ago.
