The Church

Named after St. Margaret of Antioch, the Church is in Chapel Lane (see map of parish). A church was first built in about the year 1250, and over the years has been rebuilt and enlarged.

As you can see from the pictures, it is a very beautiful church in a delightful country setting. For 750 years people have met here for the happy occasions of Christening and Marriages, and at the sad times to commend to God those who have died.

Parish Records
Historic records of St Margaret, Great Barr have been deposited at Staffordshire Record Office, where they are available for consultation by the public. These include the parish registers of baptisms 1653-1952, marriages 1653-1958 and burials 1653-1948. Also notable are parish officers' accounts for the 18th and 18th centuries.

A catalogue of these records is available in "Gateway to the Past" - the online catalogue of the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Archive Service. The Archive Service's website provides further information on planning a visit to the office to consult records, should you wish to do so.
