Pilgrimage to ItalyWe recently went on a Pilgrimage to Italy and here is a brief itinerary and a few photographic memories of our most enjoyable trip. (An outline of our trip to Italy from 6th-13th October, 2005) To see some of the photographs we took on our pilgrimage please click on the appropriate thumbnail below:
We met (37 of us) outside St. Michael's Church very early on the 6th October. After a perfect journey we spent that afternoon in Pisa trying to get an angle on the leaning tower! We then travelled to our first hotel, the Alcide in Poggibonsi (about 45 mins from Florence). Day 2 was spent in Florence, a truly magnificent City where we had a guided tour and a lot of walking! Day 3 we visited Siena and looked at St. Catherine‘s finger (allegedly). This was our only rainy day but it did not spoil our enjoyment of a wonderful City. Day 4 it was back to Florence for Sunday Service and free time in the afternoon. Day 5 we moved from Poggibonsi to our next hotel in Sottomarina via Ravenna. For many this was one of the highlights of our visit. Ravenna is home to some wonderful 2,000 year old mosaics which are very well preserved. Day 6 was spent in Venice a truly unique place some of us had lunch near the Rialto Bridge (an expensive but most enjoyable occasion) and some enjoyed a trip on a gondola. Day 7 was spent in Verona rightly described as one of the loveliest cities in Italy. A most enjoyable day. Day 8 was a surprise. We spent the morning in Chioggia a small medieval port adjoining the resort of Sottomarina. Wonderful weather and a delightful spot made this a perfect end to our trip. The flight home was on time and we arrived home on Thursday evening. Overall we enjoyed our trip! We saw many wonderful sights and value for money was obtained. Our next trip will be in 2007. If you are interested in travelling with us please contact the vicar (01922) 624677 or Email: suchcol@aol.com There were many other highlights which we shall re-live at an Italian bring-and-share on 23rd November following 8.00pm mass. All are welcome to come to this event as long as you can provide something Italian! (Gondoliers accepted !)
