![]() St. Luke's AreaThe 'Chuckery' comprises largely Victorian terraces or 1930's housing, with small industrial units close to the church. Older industry has been replaced by modern starter homes. A high-rise estate, the Paddock Flats stands close to the church. The population of St. Luke‘s district is approximately 3,500.The ChurchSt. Luke's Church was built 140 years ago as a mission church to serve the community of the Chuckery area. It is now part of a team with St. Matthew's and St. Martin's. The building was re-ordered 9 years ago when the original long nave was partitioned into a warm and attractive worship area and a community activity area with kitchen. Facilities for the disabled and a loop system were also added. The beavers & cubs use the hall on Tuesday at 6.00 pm followed by the scouts at 7.20 pm. A homegroup meets fortnightly on Sundays and Lent and Advent groups also meet.St. Luke's facilities are available for hire for birthday parties or for community activities or conferences.
