Prayer Diary

Introduction
All Christians need to pray regularly, but we often find it hard to know what to pray about. This page is intended to help us all to focus our prayers.

You will find here the Collect (special prayer) for the Sunday that begins each week, as well as prayer for this Deanery and for our friends in our Companion Dioceses.

We hope you will find these helpful as you spend time with God in prayer.

November 2009
1st to 7th November
Thought for the Week
I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God." (Revelation 21)

Collect for All Saints' Day
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: grant us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that we may come to those inexpressible joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Wrockwardine Deanery
Deanery Prayers
Pray for Bishop Mark Rylands as he is welcomed into the Diocese and into this area. Give thanks for his willingness to be with us and pray that we can have the willingness to work with him for the good of God's people and Kingdom.

Local Prayers
Pray for safety and fun for all who will be enjoying bonfires and fireworks in this area this week. Pray for the people of Withington as they celebrate bonfire night and give thanks for the community spirit in this small place.

Companion Dioceses
Pray for Matlosane and especially for Bishop Steve as he leads the Anglican Church in that large Diocese in one of the poorest parts of South Africa. Give thanks for the faith and enthusiasm of the Christian people there as, with us, they celebrate God's love for us all.

8th to 14th November
Thought for the Week
Jesus said to Simon and Andrew, 'Follow me and I will make you fish for people.' And immediately they left their nets and followed him. (Mark 1)

Collect for the Third Sunday before Advent
Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of all: govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Wrockwardine Deanery
Deanery Prayers
Pray for all who are affected by war and its aftermath, especially those who still suffer as a consequence of World War 2 and subsequent and current conflicts. Give thanks for those who work in our own armed forces and pray that they will be able to work together with others for the safety, peace and well-being of our world.

Local Prayers
Pray for the small community of Uppington, giving thanks for the loyal service of its dedicated PCC across the years and their centrality to the community. Pray that God may show us how to continue our witness afresh into a new generation. Pray for the future of the Kynnersley Arms at Leighton, that its value as a place for local people to meet and share may be restored.

Companion Dioceses
Pray for the Malaysian Diocese of Kuching in northern Borneo. Give thanks for the work and witness of so many Christians in a majority Muslim country. Pray for wisdom, strength and enthusiasm for Bishop Bolly and all who lead the church there.

15th to 21st November
Thought for the Week
'Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.' (Daniel 12:3)

Collect for the Second Sunday before Advent
Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son was revealed to destroy the works of the devil and to make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life: grant that we, having this hope, may purify ourselves even as he is pure; that when he shall appear in power and great glory we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Wrockwardine Deanery
Deanery Prayers
Pray for the Community Worship in our Church Plant at Bratton School as it meets for its second time of worship on 18th November. Give thanks for the skills and talents that enable that church to go forward and for the presence of the Lord in Bratton School and in this whole Deanery.

Give thanks for the outreach of the Anglican community there to so many neighbouring countries in South and South East Asia and pray for wisdom, joy and strength for their missionary work.

22nd to 28th November
Thought for the Week
Pilate asked him, 'So you are a king?' Jesus answered, 'You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.' (John 18:36-37)

Collect for the Feast of Christ the King
Eternal Father, whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven that he might rule over all things as Lord and King: keep the Church in the unity of the Spirit and in the bond of peace, and bring the whole created order to worship at his feet; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Wrockwardine Deanery

Pray for the Diocese of Qu'Appelle and especially for our friends in Pelly Deanery. Give thanks for our companionship links with them and for our prayers for each other, and pray that we may continue in fellowship and mutual support and love.

29th November to 5th December
Thought for the Week
The days are surely coming, says the LORD, when I will fulfil the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. (Jeremiah 33:14)

Collect for Advent Sunday
Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility; that on the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Wrockwardine Deanery

As we begin Advent, pray that we all be able to find time in the busy pre-Christmas period to prepare ourselves properly to celebrate the birth of our Saviour and to meet him when he comes in glory. Give thanks for the opportunity we have at our Deanery Service to worship God, begin our Advent preparations and celebrate the first anniversary of our Deanery Team Mandate.

Local Prayers
Pray for the church and people of Rodington as we hold our Deanery Advent service there. Give thanks for the way in which Anglicans and Methodists can work together there in the Local Ecumenical Project at the church, and pray for even greater fellowship and deeper faith.

Companion Dioceses
Pray for the Diocese of West Malaysia and especially for its bishops and clergy. Give thanks for the witness of the Cathedral Church in central Kuala Lumpur and for mostly good relations between different religions in that country. Pray for the people and clergy of Ipoh in central West Malaysia.
